FADE IN:

EXT. HOUSE-MOVING DAY

A big U-Haul truck slowly pulls away from a small blue house with white shutters.

CUT TO:

INT. VAN-DAY

JORDYN sits slouched in her seat staring out the van window; she crosses her arms and watches the leaves fall from the trees, with a pout on her face. MRS. TAYLOR, with a firm grip on the steering wheel pulls up the driveway of Phoenix High School and pulls to the curb.

JORDYN: You just don’t get it!

MRS. TAYLOR: I’m sorry, but you knew we would have to move again.

Jordyn opens the door to the van and mutters

EXT. VAN-DAY

Jordyn slams the door and begins to walk up to the main doors of Phoenix High; she looks around at the jocks gathered by the picnic table, and the geeks crowded around a laptop. The jocks spot her and yell “Go Home Newbie”, “You’ll never fit in.” She looks down at her feet she sighs and heads for the school doors.

INT. SCHOOL-DAY

Jordyn walks through the bright empty hallway through the office doors. She looks up and sees the faculty members behind the large counter all working and bustling around with papers. She walks to the desk, looking back down at her feet the whole time, and accidently bumps into NICK a tall 19 yr old who’s walking to the same counter staring at a form in her hand.

JORDYN: Oh, I’m sorry. I-

NICK: Watch where you’re going!

Nick looks up from her paper

NICK: Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize-

JORDYN: Ya, it’s my first day

NICK: You get your schedule yet?

JORDYN: Ugh, unfortunately.

NICK: Where ya headed?

JORDYN: English, with Mr. O’Donnel? ...

NICK: Oh damn, I feel sorry for you.

JORDYN: What? Why? ...

Nick walks away without saying another word.

INT. MR. O’DONNEL’S CLASS

Jordyn looks around the small dimly lit classroom at the Thoreau posters hanging on the wall. She moves her eyes to each of the seats. As she spots one and heads over TOMMY kicks his feet up on it.

TOMMY: Not here newbie

She spots one by TWO GIRLS, STEPH and CHELSEA. Shaking Jordyn walks over and sits down. The girls begin to whisper.

CHELSEA: What the hell does she think she’s doing?

STEPH: What do you expect, she’s new.

MR. O’DONNEL: Girls! Do I have to split you two up?

The girls stop talking and Mr. O’Donnel spots Jordyn.

Jordyn sighing looks at the clock that shows 8:30am. The hands move around slowly and stop, showing 11:30am now.

CUT TO:

Jordyn in a larger class, study hall, the walls are bare and there are only a few students in here. She’s sitting next to Nick; Nick slouching in her seat.

NICK: So what’s your deal?

JORDYN: Huh?

NICK: Well we don’t get any new kids in October unless something happened at their old school. So what happened?

JORDYN: Oh, nothing

NICK: Nah c’mon tell me.

JORDYN: My mom has to move around with her job and it sucks. Just when I think I’ve got a friend, I’m forced to move again. It’s like what the hell.

NICK: Ouch, hey me and Lauren are eating lunch together you’re welcome to join us.

JORDYN: Even though I’m the “newbie”?

NICK: Eh don’t listen to any of them. There all losers anyways.

JORDYN: Wow, thanks

NICK: Plus I know what it’s like, before last year, I went to a new school almost every year since I was 5. My dad’s in the military, we’re always moving. So I know what its like.

JORDYN (in a very angry tone, almost yelling, at Nick): I can’t believe you! You.. Why didn’t you.. What the hell??

NICK: We didn’t think you’d-

JORDYN: You didn’t think what? That I would want to know that my two best friends are screwing each other??

LAUREN: It’s not like that Jordyn

JORDYN: Ya sure, whatever Lauren (she turns away) and I thought I might have actually made friends here.

NICK: We are-

Jordyn runs off before Nick can say anything more.

INT. BATHROOM-NOON

Jordyn looking in the mirror, she begins to get angrier as she hits the mirror with her fist. It shatters just as MRS. JACOBS the guidance counselor walks in. She immediately consoles Jordyn.

MRS. JACOBS: What’s wrong? What happened? What-

Jordyn cuts her off

JORDYN-Don’t talk to me!

MRS. JACOBS: Its okay you can talk to me

JORDYN: Just leave me alone damn!

Mrs. Jacobs walks her to the nurse to clean out her hand of the glass. They pass Nick at her locker; Jordyn walks right past not saying a word. The nurse cleans out her cuts and wraps her hand. Jordyn lays on the couch crying, when suddenly Nick walks in.

NICK: Jordyn, look I can explain.

JORDYN: Explain how you lied to me, I trusted you.

NICK: I didn’t lie, you never asked! Plus no one knows, well except you now.

NICK: Jordyn, I need to talk to you, its important.
