Screening

Screening
As I was writing my first blog entry, I thought I should maybe bring this up here.

Idk how health-conscience all you in Openmynds are, but current recommendations are for people 20 years and older to have their cholesterol (Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides) screened every 5 years, or for those with family history or active hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) every 1-2 years.

High cholesterol is something that can be managed in the early stages with diet and exercise. However, if it's not managed, it can cause some SERIOUS health problems, that may require surgical intervention in order to save your heart and life.

So, if you haven't lately, I encourage all of you to get your cholesterol screened!

I am 42 and I have my trigs, HDL and LDL checked every year, sometimes my doctor checks twice a year. What I would add to this is that you should have a regular primary care doctor and get regular checkups because in these a doctor can practice preventive medicine and the two of you can work together to keep you healthy.  Preventive medicine can head off so many things.
And please get regular HIV tests and make sure that your doctor is aware of your sexual practices.

y'know, maybe I should go do that, lol. I've a family history so screening might be good...
Great habit to get into whioe still young.
