Bear week PTown

Bear week PTown
So I went to PTown a few weeks ago and it happened to be bear week. Anyone else ever have this experience. All of the big dudes walking around who are very masculine but also happen to be gay or bi. (bad week for fashion but the gym was crowded I'm sure) There is often an assumption that same sex attracted men are supposed to be effiminate or really want to be female. Often confusing us with transfolk. It is the standard Hollywood sissy factor where the entertainment caractature has become the idea of who we are are to the general population but what is worse is that a lot of times these ideas become the ideas for people on how they are supposed to act if they are same sex attracted. Oh well.
All in all it was an interesting day since I am a people person anytime I can be around thousands of people is a good day. And though I myself find nothing attractive in the general bearish look I'm glad that they are there. They really are becoming more present but a lot of that has to do with the fact that the guys from the60s, 70s and 80s are older now and just tend toward being more bearish.
So when I was a kid I was lucky i that I had a really large masculine uncle who happened to be partnered with a total queen so I had no idea that one or the other was the norm for gay or bi men. But most of my friends only had the effiminate ideals etc to steer by so many of them were very effiminate because they equated that with gay/bi.
I'm glad that isn't the case anymore and people are freer to be themselves and so we can be femme or bearish or androgynous etc and still be a man.

Awwww, I would've loved to go to bear week. I would consider myself a cub, ^.^ I like the term very much *growl* So yeah....other cubs or otters can be soooo cute :) iono why but I'm attractive to odd guys like cubs and geeks cus they can be soo adorable ^^. And guys with facial hair..... Grrr, oh well.

Ok, I guess that's enough information about me :D I envy you maestro. I'm sure you had a good time *tips hat*
Too bad everyone doesn't have a good example of how gay people have personalities that span all the types. Cub, HAHA! *amused* I don't like facial hair, but that's just me. =P
I like facial hair? Well... depends. I've seen good and bad, like with any other characteristic, right?

*looks at the post from the.alphy and the.watcher* o_O the.alphy has facial hair? o_O where???? :P
Sounds like an interesting experience.

I’ve always associated (in my mind) “bears” with the “leather” and “S&M” subgroups, not because I think bears are involved in those groups, but because they tend to be more on the “fetish” side than mainstream (whatever that is for the gay community). I guess I also don’t immediately make the association of “Bears = masculine” because I have met my share of bears that are “queens”.

But in any case, I enjoyed the last statement Maestro made, “We can be femme or bearish or androgynous etc and still be a man”, because quite frankly, if a biological female can be a man, it makes me think that "man" is more so a mindset than anything defined by biology or sex role stereotypes.

Hence all this talk of gender as an identity that you define for yourself! I too tend to lump fetishes together... 'cuz I'm not particularly interested in any. ^^" At least, I'm aware I do it! =P But I also usually assume bear => masculine as I've not seen these feminine ones. But I'm sure that's more due to my lack of sight rather than a lack of femme bears.

And no, the.alphy is not really hairy. (XD The secret is out!) I just meant that hairy can be attractive to me in some people. Yups.
