Public Libraries

Public Libraries
I suppose I could have posted this in Books, or in Politics, but whatever.  I work for the public library out here in Las Vegas and we do quite a bit of outreach, including to the gay community in Vegas.  We had Armistead Maupin come and speak at one of our branches, and a couple of local authors and groups and stuff for out Pride month.  And all year round we have bookmarks that recommend authors, and we have a LGBT bookmark, and more importantly to my mind, we have a teen LGBT bookmark.  Just curious if you all have libraries or other public institutions that do such stuff.

Libraries do that?? I didn't realize that they had programs like that. I've only ever used a library to check out books that I didn't want to buy. I'll have to look into our local library more!

If your libraries are cool like mine they do.  And libraries usually respond to nudging, if you think they have a collection weakness they will usually try to fix it. And libraries are about fighting for what you want to see. My library distract attracts two kinds of employees.  Very religious conservatives who like the image of quiet libraries etc.  and freedom of speech hippies who want to make displays of witchcraft books etc.  It's a wonderful dynamic.

My public library has a smelly homeless man that sleeps there all the time and they keep waking him up but he keeps falling back to sleep and they keep waking him  up and he never leaves and you can smell him like 30 feet away and every time I go there he's there

poor guy, someone should offer him a shower or something. It's gotta be hard having the library as your only place to go..

The library here is cool to a point. Like they like to get the community together and they do poetry things and movie showings but they don't have cool outreach programs or anything that I know of. I think I would have seen something since I practally live there.
thankfully I have a warm bed and shower I can go home to.

Seriously, bring that guy a cheeseburger or something and give him a hug... how long do you think it's been since he's had a hug? Everyone needs hugs.
