Drum Corps Director

Drum Corps Director
So today during a board meeting they decided to name me as the new director for a small Drum Corps here in my area. It is a small Corps going through a serious rebuild. Got a first competition next month and some parades lined up.

Ooh! I love parades! I was in a parade last Christmas for "Band of the Future". I play in the parade this Christmas, but last year I was just pegging people with skittels yelling "Taste The Rainbow!! :D" *until I ran out of Skittels and started just yelling "Happy Solstice" and "The Earth says 'Hello!!"^^ Because I do weird things like that :) I took the pointy green elf hat, rather than a red Santa hat XD It was so fun, but I can't wait until this year when I get to play my tuba in the parade :)

If you play tuba you should be marching in a corps.
What's that? :) 'Sounds awesomesauce-tastic :D

A Drum and Bugle Corps is made up of percussion, brass and color guard. We do parades and shows.
Oh okay, awesomesauce. My school has the same thing. Next year I'm marching in the Super Bowl *haha ew XD*. We also have color guard and dancers. Our band is percussion, brass, and woodwinds, then there's the color guard, and then there's the dancers. Some other guy and I are the the only tuba players out of the hundred or so students in all of them combined. XD Nobody likes tubas T~T

I love tubas, hate playing 'em but I love having them in my horn line. Go look at some DCI corps like Spartans which is who my son marched for. We are Building a DCA corp from what used to be a DCI corps.
 Oh cool.^^
I just got my new tuba :) I could fit Westley *tromboner #2  <---- haha.. band joke. :)* inside it XD We had a nice chat about that, and how if I ever had reason to kidnap him I could just hide him in my tuba :D Yeah... thankfully the case has little wheels, or I wouldn't be able to carry it. The case itself (without the tube) is as heavy as my Tina *my other tuba* and the case combined o.o ...still haven't named her, though. *has to be a female name. Tubas are not male XD We discovered this in band>.> ...she used to be Todd. >.>*

Funny, my instruments always have male names unless someone else discovered their names first.
Like I said... she used to be Todd. o.o
Trombone + Tuba + Perverted minds + Band Geeks + Proper being absent from the room = Discovery of the gender of instruments. Flutes are female, tubas are female, trombones are male, trumpets are male, and we haven't gotten around to discovering saxophones, clarinets, percussion, or any of the other ones. Brass and Diana (who plays flute) are the only ones we have awesome enough to think it through :D *kidding*
... but they all have genders for a reason...
One of which is our lovely conductor's way of wording things... We think he does it intentionally, although it's only the low brass and trumpets who actually catch the jokes XD He uses the terms "blow" and "deep throat" a lot.... and finger, but he has to use that one, I guess XD
"Tighten your grip and blow harder"; "Open your throat and blow!"; "No, that's my finger, really!" ..dude, one time he made six in one day.... I wrote them all down. I was writing at the time, so I decided to just write those down. The last two were on that day. ...
The other is just random jokes and actions that implay an instrument's gender... But I suppose we just have wild imaginations :D

One of my guitar students looked at his guitar one day and said "it's gotta be male with this big sticky outy thing". See I don't think that the genders are absolute for any type of instrument and you can male or female anything, my guitars x4, mandolins, banjos, bass, dulcimer, trumpet, flute, clarinet, drums, bagpipes, saxophone are all male, my two pianos are female but they came with names in tact and the harp that I play is female but is not actually mine and I have lots of odd little guys around to play.
My youngest son just rescued a Sousaphone from the dumpster by the HS, all that it needed was a $60 lead pipe and to be cleaned, he plays baritone horn and was so happy to have his own tuba now. Though I always have two in the house for drum corps anyway so he can play a tuba anytime that he wants.
Woah, you play all those instuments? o.o I only play piano/keyboard, *preferrably keyboard*, tuba and guitar. I was going to play french horn, but Proper doesn't let first-years play french horn or oboe. I've always wanted to play the bagpipes though! :D A friend of mine can play the bagpipes. One time she was just playing on the chanter part while I was on the phone with her. Epic awesomesaucery :) Before any of us started band, there was this thing we did, where the band brought all of the instruments and let us play them to see which ones we would me best at playing. It was a rating 0-5. I got fives on tuba, clarinet, french horn, trombone, and baritone. Fours on percussion, flute, and trumpet. Three on sax. <---Sax is difficult.
I'm pretty sure there were more, but I forgot. :D
